Welcome to Gladstone

Gladstone Location MapNestled in the Rocky River Valley at the southern end of the beautiful Flinders Ranges in  South Australia ‚ is the town of Gladstone.

The township of Gladstone, situated 209 kms north of Adelaide, was named after one of the British Empire’s most illustrious statesman, The Right Honorable William Ewart Gladstone.

The town’s rich heritage is an interesting mix of farming, railways, military and the famous historic Gladstone Gaol. Once the major railway junction in the mid-north, it is now the location of the largest inland grain receival facility in Australia.

A walk around the town provides much of this fascinating past.  Both self-guided and guided walking tours are available to visitors.  Information is available at the Southern Flinders Discovery Centre.

The small but shady Tresylva Park provides electric barbecues, a large lawn covered area, public and disabled toilets, playground and ample parking.  There’s plenty of room to walk the dog or stretch your legs too.  Gladstone Street has public and disabled toilets and now offers long vehicle parking facilities and a new children’s playground.  Eat out but under cover in the street shelters.

A friendly, peaceful town, Gladstone is a great place to live or to visit.  Take time to know the community.  Stay awhile in accommodation with friends or family, the Caravan Park, Commercial Hotel, Conyngham Cottage, Edie’s O’Nite or Gladstone Gaol Complex.

Gladstone provides all facilities that are needed on a day-to-day basis.  This includes a 7-day supermarket and service station,  6-day cafés, 5-day garages‚ medical, banking and postal facilities.
